NYS DEC Case Study
Client – NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Project: Multi-Media Consumer Campaign promoting the DEC Campground Experience Goals: Raise awareness and increase attendance at the facilities by attracting new users and return visits; increase the public’s understanding of NYS DEC Summer Recreation programs in relation to other elements of New York State’s tourism/camping industry. Scope: In 2001, The Paige Group was awarded a contract with the NYS DEC Bureau of Recreation to develop and implement a multi-media campaign to promote DEC Campgrounds. An essential component of this program was to build cooperative relationships that would result in ongoing promotion of the campgrounds. Campaign materials included television, radio, and print advertising; trade shows; collateral materials such as camping guides, maps and posters; children’s program materials and special events. Outcomes: The program established more than 150 co-op relationships throughout New York State. The Paige Group also was able to leverage media dollars to gain bonus and program sponsorship opportunities, thereby expanding the impact of DEC’s media budgets by more than $1 million in value-added advertising programs — three times their cash budget.
